The short version: Verdict is open source and provided as-is. You are responsible for the policies you write and the infrastructure decisions you authorize using it. We don't guarantee it catches everything, and we're not liable for what your infrastructure does.

Who we are

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the website at obsidianwall.com, the documentation at obsidianwall.dev, and the ObsidianWall Verdict open-source software ("Verdict" or "the Software"). By using our website or the Software, you agree to these Terms.

For questions about these Terms, contact us at hello@obsidianwall.com.

The software

Verdict is open-source software distributed under the license published in its GitHub repository. Your use of the Software is also governed by that license, which takes precedence over these Terms for matters of source code use, modification, and redistribution.

Verdict evaluates infrastructure plans against governance policies you define. You are solely responsible for the policies you write, the decisions you configure, and the infrastructure changes you authorize using the Software.

Telemetry and your control over it

Verdict CLI telemetry is collected by default to help us understand usage patterns and improve the product. You can opt out at any time by setting the appropriate environment variable as documented at obsidianwall.dev.

What is and is not collected is described in full in our Privacy Policy. These Terms incorporate that policy by reference.

No warranty

The Software and this website are provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not guarantee that Verdict will catch every governance violation, prevent every infrastructure misconfiguration, or independently satisfy any specific compliance framework requirement. Verdict is a tool to support your governance program — it does not replace organizational judgment, legal review, or compliance expertise.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, ObsidianWall and its founders shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Software or website — including but not limited to infrastructure deployment failures, financial losses, compliance findings, or security incidents.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Intellectual property

The ObsidianWall name, logo, and branding are the property of ObsidianWall. The open-source components of Verdict are licensed as specified in the project's GitHub repository.

The Programmable Assurance discipline, as documented at programmableassurance.org, is published under Creative Commons licensing and exists independently of ObsidianWall's trademarks. Programmable Assurance is an open discipline — it is not proprietary to ObsidianWall.

Third-party services

Our website may link to or rely on third-party services, including Formspree, Vercel, GitHub, PyPI, and Google Fonts. Your use of those services is governed by their respective terms, not these Terms. See our Privacy Policy for how these processors handle data.

Changes to the service

We may modify, update, or discontinue any part of the website or Software at any time. Material changes affecting the open-source Software will generally be communicated through GitHub release notes.

Changes to these Terms

If we make material changes to these Terms, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the website or Software after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
